This course provides student with an understanding of the cultural diversity of our changing society. Students will examine and discuss the diverse value and characteristic of ethnic and minority populations and how those influence society, social and economic processes, and race relations. The dimensions of diversity (also termed factors of diversity) are numerous: race, gender, nationality, ethnicity, religion, age, disability sexual orientation/life style economic and educational background, and learning and communication style and functional/technical expertise to list the most commonly encountered. Studying diversity is learning about differences to expand understanding and affect previous ways of working with others. Critical thoughts and respectful openness are required to benefit most from studying cases in cultural diversity.
